Lifestyle changes such as avoiding alcohol and non-vegetarian foods and drinking plenty of fluids can help improve results.

Common side effects include liver function abnormalities, nausea, joint pain, and rashes. You may experience a temporary increase in gout symptoms (sudden severe pain, warmth, and redness in the joint) when starting the medicine. Do not discontinue the treatment. Your doctor may prescribe pain relievers or additional medicines to manage these symptoms. Inform your doctor immediately if you notice signs of liver problems such as persistent nausea, dark urine, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
